Amore e Valsa la Pena

"LOVE IS A TEMPORARY MADNESS, IT ERUPTS LIKE VOLCANOES AND THEN SUBSIDES. AND WHEN IT SUBSIDES YOU HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION. YOU HAVE TO WORK OUT WHETHER YOUR ROOTS HAVE SO ENTWINED TOGETHER THAT IT IS INCONCEIVABLE THAT YOU SHOULD EVER PART. BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS. LOVE IS NOT BREATHLESSNESS, IT IS NOT EXCITEMENT, IT IS NOT THE PROMULGATION OF ETERNAL PASSION. THAT IS JUST BEING "IN LOVE" WHICH ANY FOOL CAN DO. LOVE ITSELF IS WHAT IS LEFT OVER WHEN BEING IN LOVE HAS BURNED AWAY, AND THIS IS BOTH AN ART AND A FORTUNATE ACCIDENT. THOSE THAT TRULY LOVE HAVE ROOTS THAT GROW TOWARDS EACH OTHER UNDERGROUND, AND WHEN ALL THE PRETTY BLOSSOM HAVE FALLEN FROM THEIR BRANCHES, THEY FIND THAT THEY ARE ONE TREE AND NOT TWO."

-LOUIS DE BERNIERES

Say hello to my new favorite quote of the century. I think it is so refreshing and honest to have someone (even someone as obscure as a previously unknown author) say what love ACTUALLY is, loud and proud! While passion and whirlwind romances are fun, exciting and more often then not take your breath away, real and lasting love is about understanding and accepting the faults that are present within our partners and loving the other anyway. The part about having roots that grow toward each other really hit home for me. Relationships are hard work and they will continue to be, but if you find that your roots are so entangled (and you want them to stay that way), then it is worth every bit of effort to see it through.
